Olga Kurylenko in Glamour Magazine
Bond girl of the moment, Olga Kurylenko, is jumping all over her 15 minutes and posed for yet another photo shoot, this time for the December issue of Glamour magazine. So here's a question: will Olga fade into obscurity as a has-been Bond girl, or we will see more of her in the future? My money says this won't be the last of her.

Olga Kurylenko Denounced by Communists
If you need evidence that the Communist party is now completely irrelevant, the fact that they're bothering to call out Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko for starring in a Bond movie is pretty much all you need to know. Yahoo Movies reports:
The Ukrainian actress, who plays a Bolivian secret agent opposite Daniel Craig's 007 in "Quantum Of Solace", has also gained ire of the Communist Party of St. Petersburg, which in an open letter on its website condemned her for aiding "the killer of hundreds of Soviet people and their allies." The group's statement describes 007 as "a man who worked for decades under the orders of Thatcher and Reagan to destroy the USSR."

The Communist Party of St Petersburg, a splinter group of the second largest political party in the Russian Duma, has made headlines earlier in the year when it denounced "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" as crude anti-Soviet propaganda and called actors Harrison Ford and Cate Blanchett "capitalist puppets."

The group appealed to Kurylenko, who was born in the former USSR: "The Soviet Union educated you, cared for you and brought you up for free but no one suspected that you would commit this act of intellectual and moral betrayal." Sergei Malenkovich, head of the party's regional organization, further elaborated to the Associated Press, arguing the movie wanted "to show that a Ukrainian girl sleeps with an American. It's a part of information and psychological war."

The Communist party might as well put a headline on their web site that reads: Join Us! We have no idea what the fuck we're talking about!

If you're going to condemn a person for appearing in a film, it might help to actually watch said film before making a public statement and embarrassing yourself. Not only does Kurylenko's character not even sleep with James Bond, even if she did, how exactly would that portray a "Ukranian girl sleeping with an American"? Considering Ian Fleming wrote several novels and there have been more than 20 Bond movies made over a period of 40-plus years, you'd think they'd know by now that 007 is British, not to mention that 007 is probably the most iconic British character of all time. But perhaps they meant actor Daniel Craig - oh wait, he's not American either. I didn't realize Karl Marx included a passage in his book condemning fact checkers and editors as well. Morons.

Quantum of Solace is Not a Bond Movie
While I was a huge supporter of the idea that the Bond franchise needed a fresh start - specifically after Die Another Day featured both an invisible car and a scene in which Bond surfed on a glacial wave - it's a little sad how un-Bond 007: Quantum of Solace actually is.

It's not Daniel Craig's fault; in fact, I really like him as 007 just as I liked Pierce Brosnan, and I thought Casino Royale was one of the best Bond films ever and a refreshing return to reality. But with Solace my main question is, as the Joker would ask: why so serious? Bond used to have a good sense of humor. This film is quite entertaining as an action movie, but it barely resembles an entry in the Bond franchise. It's one thing to keep things down-to-earth and ultra-realistic; however, it's another thing to try so hard to break away from the conventional Bond that we end up longing for some of the familiar aspects we always enjoyed, even if they are cliche.

I'm not going to delve into great detail, but I will mention a few key examples.

First, Olga Kurylenko was well cast as the bond girl; she's extremely sexy and exotic, and somewhat believable as being capable enough in the numerous action scenes. But not only does Bond not have sex with her, he doesn't even try when he has the chance. Not even the slightest quip of sexual innuendo. What gives? Bond is supposed to be dedicated to the job, but bedding hot women is one of the perks. He does roll in the hay with Gemma Arterton, but beyond that you barely get the sense that he's interested in the opposite sex.

Olga Kurylenko Sizzles in German Maxim
One thing I've always liked about the Bond movies is how when it comes to casting Bond girls they usually select some random hot actress most people have never heard of. It almost always works out better this way as opposed to using an already famous actress, such as Halle Berry or Teri Hatcher.

The latest no-name actress to join the canon of Bond girls is Olga Kurylenko, who stars in Quantum of Solace. While you definitely can't make this statement without first seeing the film, Kurylenko may be the hottest Bond girl ever. If you think I'm full of it, just check out this sizzling photo shoot she did for the German edition of Maxim. Yowza!
