More details are being revealed about the hours before DJ AM died. They aren't nearly as interesting as, say, the hours before Michael Jackson's death, but then again, what is?

Though the details surrounding DJ AM's death remain medically inconclusive, more information from the celebrity DJ's death are coming to light.

DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, sent his last text message to two friends at 1 am Friday morning, a police source told People. The message regarded the Friday night gig at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas, which Goldstein would have played.

A friend of Goldstein's called 911 about 16 hours later, after Goldstein failed to answer phone calls from his travelling companions, according to the source.

New York police broke down the door to Goldstein's SoHo apartment, and found him lifeless in bed, wearing sweatpants, the source said. A crack pipe was nearby, and police also found half a bag of crack cocaine and prescription drugs.

An autopsy was performed, but an official cause of death is inconclusive, pending additional toxicology and tissue tests, which could take several weeks, the New York medical examiner's office told TVGuide.com.

It makes me sad that the outfit DJ AM used to do drugs is the same one I wear to lie around watching cartoon and eating cereal. Seriously dude, crack cocaine? You're a Jewish DJ from New York, what the hell were you doing with crack? ... besides the obvious.

On Friday, DJ AM, a celebrity disc jockey who no one away from the West Coast had heard of, was found dead. Well, I guess some people knew him. He did get into that plane crash in September that killed four others, but people mostly remember it as the one that nearly took out Blink 182's drummer. Yeah, that was sad...

Now though, police are saying that the DJ, whose real name was Adam Goldstein, is believed to have died of a drug overdose. Wait for it, there's some serious irony coming your way.

If toxicology tests - still weeks away -- do confirm that drugs led to his death at age 36, it would be a tragic end to his years of battling addiction.

"I got so lost in my disease," he told MTV News in his final interview with the network on July 29, 2009, which was posted on MTV's Web site after the news of his death.

At the time of his death, the star had just completed a reality series for MTV called "Gone Too Far" about helping addicts stop using. Whether it will air or not is currently unknown.

"The inspiration for the show is that I am a recovering drug addict, 11 years sober," he told MTV News... "Every day, I have to remind myself that... I'm still a drug addict. I have to hold onto the ground, gripping the grass with both hands."

Oh irony and fate, you pair of fickle bitches. The dude survived the plane crash, joined a show about stopping drug addictions and then died of one himself. I'm not sure if this story is tragically hilarious or hilariously tragic - both are pretty mean, so I'm going to go with the second one. Seriously, this is a warning to all would-be celebrities. We already knew doing anything on MTV would kill your career, now it looks like the stakes are much much higher.
