Throughout production of Frank Miller's The Spirit, rumors swirled of cat fights occurring between various female cast members, including Eva Mendes, Jaime King and Scarlett Johansson. But now Mendes is
lashing out in response to the rumors:
Hollywood actress Eva Mendes has accused America's film industry of sexism, complaining that male actors never have to deal with [rumors] of feuding with same-sex co-stars.
But despite the number of A-list actresses on-set, there was no tension amongst the cast - and the star is fed up with fending off misogynistic rumours of cat-fighting behind the scenes.
She says, "I know how people like to believe that, but it's a very sexist way of thinking. Nobody ever asks that when men work together in an ensemble cast. I've been in the business 10 years and I've never had a negative situation with another actress - ever."
Sexist? More like sexy. Rowr!
Shakespeare would respond to Eva's comments by saying, "Me thinks doth protest too much." And mentioning Willy Shakes, the guy used to make a ton of female cat fight jokes in his plays, so this sort of thing isn't exactly new. Mendes sure is up on a high horse for an actress who first got noticed because she was buck naked in Training Day. Frankly, when you're in a movie that is already the front-runner to win a bunch of Razzie awards, you'd think she'd be thankful that people were talking about something other than how horrible the movie turned out.
Here's Mendes recently at the Golden Globe Awards, where she was apparently attacked by a giant bow left over from Christmas.
