Amanda Seyfried Nabs Role from Lindsay Lohan
Actress Amanda Seyfried, who you may recognize from HBO's Big Love or last year's movie version of Mamma Mia!, has been cast to star in the big screen adaptation of A Woman Of No Importance by Oscar Wilde. The role was originally supposed to be for Lindsay Lohan, but producers opted for a fresh face, and I mean that both figuratively and literally. WENN reports:
Mamma Mia! star Amanda Seyfried has beaten Lindsay Lohan to the lead role in a big-screen adaptation of Oscar Wilde play A Woman Of No Importance. Mean Girls star Lohan was first linked to the part in 2006, but she appears to have lost out to Seyfried, who will step back in time for the upper-class dark comedy, set in Britain's Victorian era.

She will star opposite Sean Bean, who will portray womaniser Lord Illingworth, and Annette Bening will play his mother, according to Variety.

This is hardly a surprising choice considering the nature of the role. The only thing that seems upper class about Lindsay Lohan are the expensive booze she likes to drink. I suppose this means she'll be trashing Seyfried by writing on a bathroom stall door in the near future.

You know what Lindsay Lohan's real problem is? She's just not a very good actress. She had some talent when she was younger, but there's a big difference between some Parent Trap movie and the kind of films adults watch without their kids.

"You know what Lindsay Lohan's real problem is? She's just not a very good actress."

Wrong. Linsay's problem is that she's perceived as a jerk-a-lac and in a very unpleasant way. Not only has she proved her amazing gift in her youth ie. "The Parent Trap", but in later years in "Freaky Friday", "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen" (which though it often gets panned by pro and average schmo alike, is actually, imo, rather good with a fantastic dry wit; it may be more fav. viewed by circumspect souls in the future), and of course "Mean Girls". It's all on tape.

I would argue that it's a *perceived* (real or otherwise) annoying egomania, mean-spiritedness and cavalier contempt for others that has turned people off. If the alleged staggering conceit and drug use haven't altered her creative sonar ie. humble, relatively objective performance self-criticism, then my guess is, like her or not, she can nail, *very* impressively, all sorts of roles.
